Finding leaks before they cause major damage

Water leaks are often hard to detect. They may hide behind walls, under floors, or within pipes, causing costly damage long before you notice visible signs. Left unresolved, leaks can lead to structural issues, mould growth, and higher repair bills.

Our leak detection service uses non-invasive methods to locate the source of water leaks quickly and precisely, without unnecessary destruction to your property. From small leaks in private homes to complex pipework in commercial buildings, we have the expertise and technology to identify the problem and prevent further damage.

The impact of leaks should never be underestimated. A 0.5mm leak could lose 20 litres of water every hour, causing considerable destruction to your property.

Pinpoint the source with minimal disruption

Finding a leak shouldn’t mean unnecessary excavation or strip-out. Using specialist techniques including acoustic detection and thermography, we can locate hidden leaks across pipework and building structures with greater precision. Clear reporting then gives you the findings and recommendations needed to make an informed decision on the next steps.

Does your home insurance cover leak detection?

Many home insurance policies include Trace & Access cover, which may cover the cost of locating the source of a water leak. The level of cover varies by insurer and policy, so it’s important to check your policy or speak to your insurer before making a claim.

Polygon works with leading UK insurers and can provide clear reporting on the leak investigation and findings to support the claims process

How do I know if I've got a leak?

If you suspect you have a leak within your property but are unsure of its exact location, you should turn off your internal mains water stopcock and then check the dial on your meter. If your meter dial is still moving, then you may have a leak within your boundary. If you turn back on your internal stopcock and the meter starts to move this suggests that the leaks is within your property. If the meter does not move it suggests that the leak is not related to any of your pipework and maybe an external source or waste pipe.

Can you fix a leak once you find it?

Polygon offers a repair service. Once the leak has been identified the technician will determine whether the repair is something that we can conduct at the time of the visit. In the unlikely event we cannot repair the leak, Polygon will provide a comprehensive report detailing the best course of action to remedy the issue. This can then be passed directly on to your plumber or insurer for repair.

How do I dry my property after a leak has been repaired?

Once a leak has been repaired, it is very important that the area is properly dried. Polygon can undertake a full forced drying program using the appropriate type of dehumidifier and will issue a drying certificate upon completion. The drying is likely to be covered by your household insurance policy.  If you speak with one of our advisors, they can guide you through the process.
